2009-2010 Freshman/Sophomore Undergraduate Scholarship
Program The application period has ended. Awards will be announced by April 10, 2009.
Each year NC Space Grant awards $1,000 scholarships to entering
freshman and sophomore students attending its member institutions who plan on
pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Selected students are required to conduct a series of campus interviews
that includes one with their NC Space Grant Campus Director, and three with
faculty members who are conducting aero/space-related research on their
campus. At the end of the academic year scholarship recipients submit a final report
detailing the aero/space-related research and education activities that are
conducted on their campus.
Applications are evaluated based upon a
student's academic achievement, letter of recommendation, and exhibited
leadership qualities.
Eligibility Requirements The applicant must be:
- A full-time undergraduate student (during the 2009-2010 academic year)
pursuing a degree in science, engineering, technology, or mathematics
discipline of interest to NASA at a NC Space Grant member university
- Classified as a freshman or sophomore.
- In good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0).
- A permanent United States citizen.
Applicants are eligible to receive one Freshman/Sophomore
Scholarship during their academic studies.

Application Interested students must complete an online application that
includes the submission of:
- Unofficial transcripts (uploaded as a PDF file) - from all universities
and/or colleges the applicant has attended; a high school transcript is
required for students applying for the Freshman/Sophomore Undergraduate
Scholarship (official transcripts will be required only if a student is
selected to receive an award).
- Letter of recommendation - once the application has been submitted, the
recommender will be contacted, via email, with instructions on how to submit
the on-line letter of recommendation. Students are encouraged to communicate
this process with their recommender and make sure that they treat the
following email address as an approved address (often times it is sent to the
spam/junk folder): applications@spacegrant.org.
An application is not considered complete until all components have been
submitted!

- On-line application form - Due: February 1, 2009
- On-line Letter of Recommendation - Due: February 6,
2009
