Dr. Sendlinger earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Oregon State University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Cornell University. After postdoctoral and lecturer work at Indiana University, he came to North Carolina Central University in 1992. He is interested in synthesis and characterization of novel transition metal-nitrido oligomers and polymers as well as Main-group 13-15 semiconductor precursors, and has been supported in his research by the Research Corporation, American Chemical Society – Petroleum Research Fund, and the NC Space Grant.

Dr. Sendlinger is also interested in educational uses of computational science, and teaches several workshops each year to students, high school teachers, and faculty from primarily undergraduate institutions. He currently serves on the Supercomputing Education Program Steering Committee and is a consultant with the Shodor Education Foundation. He teaches inorganic chemistry, computational chemistry, and a general computational modeling course. He began his duties as the Campus Director for the NC Space Grant in 2008.
