Multi-Functional Nanocomposite Aerospace Coating

All coatings have a similar list of goals and purposes. Looks, protection, adhesion and durability are just a few. In aerospace, protection is paramount. Among the durability concerns to aircraft and their coatings are solvents, harsh cleaners, UV exposure, acid rain, and, amazingly, volcanic ash and sand. Coating for military aerospace has its own main concerns: corrosion protection and radar-absorption. Developing a coating with functionalities of excellent protection, durability and special electromagnetic protection is badly needed by the aerospace industry and military and renders great challenges to coating researchers. New technologies have to be applied to develop the multi-functinal coatins, which is the objective of this exploratory study.
